Customize the Hot Spots

Everybody has different monitoring needs, so Webcam Zone Trigger provides several kinds of Hot Spots, and lets you customize how they work.Changes take effect immediately, so experiment with each Hot Spot until it meets your particular needs.

To adjust a Hot Spot

  1. Click the Hot Spot, or double-click its name in the Spot List.

The Hot Spot's properties appear in the Hot Spot tab:

  2. Click the buttons to adjust the settings:

    Name

Any name relevant to the Hot Spot.

    Type

The default is Motion Spot, but you can select from the several kinds of Hot Spots designed to detect different kinds of motion and visual patterns - see Hot Spots

For a demo of each type of Hot Spot, select "Help..."

You can also use the Lights option in Video Settings tab. This triggers actions when the lights go on or off.

    Action

A Hot Spot triggers an action. Webcam Zone Trigger walks you through the setup for each. One of the most useful actions is Toast Pop-up, which causes the image to pop-up in the right-hand corner of your screen.

Some options require information entered in the Settings window:

    • Take a picture (.jpg files) - for image quality and compression, see Image Capture settings.
    • Record a video (.avi files) - for video quality and compression, see see Video Settings.
    • Upload images to FTP - for uploading to the internet, see FTP Settings.
    • Send an e-mail - for e-mail settings, see Email Settings.

    Sensitivity

Drag the slider to change the setting. The more sensitive the Hot Spot, the more easily it triggers. To get an idea of how much motion is present within the Hot Spot, see the Motion bar below.

Every situation is different, so it's best to experiment. Sensitivity might mean something different for each type of Hot Spot, see Hot Spots.

    Current Motion

A bar showing how much motion there is inside the hot spot. This is for information only.

    Cool Down

Once triggered, it takes the Hot Spot this long before it's ready to trigger again. This setting gives you control over how often the Hot Spot triggers - very useful for Inactivity Spots!

    Continuous

The Hot Spot must detect continuous motion for this long before before triggering.

Depending on the environment that you are monitoring, this helps reduce false positives. Exact use depends on the type of Hot Spot, see Hot Spots.

  3. If required, resize or rotate the Hot Spot using its arrows:

All pictures, videos, and log files are saved in a folder specified in General settings. To open the folder, click "My Captured Files".
